A "growing" feature at Fairview is our outdoor classroom. The project was led by Eagle Scout candidate, Brad Cornwell, Mr. Kanipe,(our former principal) and Mrs. Howell. The outdoor classroom was awarded a 2000 Youth Garden Grant. The project received a useful assortment of quality tools, seeds, plants, and garden products provided by sponsor companies. The Outdoor classroom project has really improved the back inner courtyard's appearance! Classes have enjoyed "picnicking" in the outdoor classroom last spring and again this fall on nice days. In the spring, several classes planted seeds, watched them sprout and grow, then transplanted them to beds in the outdoor classroom. They were able to further observe the life cycle of plants by collecting seeds from the plants they had planted earlier. Rain gauges and thermometers provided an opportunity to study the weather and bird feeders and bird baths offered an opportunity to observe our feathered friends. Overall, the outdoor classroom has been a huge success for learning, involving students, and improving the appearance of the outside of the school!
