School Compact

"Parents and teachers working together for the good of the child..."

This compact is an agreement between the parents and staff of HILLCREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL to help each other in providing the best possible education for our students.  In order for children to reach school standards, they need support from all the adults in their lives.  This compact states what we are supposed to do to help students meet their potential levels of academic achievement.  

PRINCIPAL, TEACHERS, STAFF agree to:

* Develop effective lesson plans and instruct students on appropriate levels of content to meet grade level standards.

* Provide information to students and parents concerning grade level content and required skills to meet standards.

* Assign homework to students as needed. Show enthusiasm in our teaching. Be positive role models for our students.

* Strive to provide a safe and nurturing school envirnonment through rair and firm safety and discipline policies.

* Provide information to parents abouit students' progress on a regular basis --report cards, conferences, letters, and telephone calls.

* Communicate with parents about sheduled school assignments, events, and projects.

* Be accessible to parents and respond to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.

* Be open to suggestions and ideas from paretns regarding students' academic progress and classroom behavior.

* Encourage PTO membership and parent involvement.

* Provide opportunities for parents to observe and or volunteer services.

PARENTS OR GUARDIANS agree to:

* Ensure that my child is on time and attends school regularly.

* Support the school in its efforts to maintain good discipline and safety.

* Respond to communications from school staff in a timely manner.

* Read at home with my child at leave 30 minutes daily. Provide a quiet, well lighted place for my child to do homework assignments.

* Check to see that homework is completed and returned tos chool on time.

* Monitor televsion / video time, and content.

* Attend parent teacher conferecnces and as mnay special school events as possible.

* Maintain a positive attitude and discusss any problems or concerns with the teacher and or principal before discussing with my child.

* Be a positive role model for my child.
