2007-2008 Family, Career, and Community
Leaders of America
FCCLA is a student organization for young men and women who are taking, or have taken, Family and Consumer Science courses. The 2007-08 school year has been a busy one for the 143 members of FCCLA. The year began with the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie fundraiser. Students bake cookies and sell them to fund service projects and field trips. In September eight members and two advisors attended the Fall Leadership Conference at the convention center in Knoxville. They took part in work sessions on membership recruitment, leaders as speakers, time management, and imagination library. In October the members donated money to buy candy for BooFest. A total of $85 in candy was donated to the Parks and Recreation Department for Boofest. In November members ordered FCCLA t-shirts with their names on the back. In December, FCCLA sponsored a Callaway child for Christmas. To celebrate the end of the semester, members took a field trip to Dixie Stampede to enjoy the Christmas show and good fellowship.The second semester has been busy once again with the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie fund raiser. The student body enjoys the warm cookies that are sold two days a week. Family and Consumer Science students will celebrate spring with a trip to Biltmore Estates in April to observe the history of period design, facilities, textiles, and to admire the beauty of the gardens. The end of April will find most of the FCCLA members enjoying themselves with a trip to Dollywood and the International Festival.
