Roger Greene
has a genuine interest in the children who are the future of
Hamblen County. Before making tough decisions,
Greene prides himself on listening to parents, teachers and administrators.
He represents Districts 7 and 8.
Greene, a realtor
with United Realty
and former senior vice president with Bank of Commerce. He is
a graduate of WSCC and the School of Banking of the South at
Louisiana State University. He
has participated in many continuing education opportunities of
the Tennessee School Boards Association and has achieved TSBA
Level 4.
As chair, Greene
initiated a comprehensive strategic plan for the school system
that addresses areas from facilities to community relations.
The director of schools is now working to develop an implementation
plan for improvement and development of goals.
Greene is proud of
the system's facilities and applauds the board's recent decision to
rezone the school system in an effort to realign students to fill vacant
classrooms.
With millions
of dollars spent on the schools over the past 16 years, Greene
feels the system must develop a plan to keep them in excellent
condition, with individuals held accountable for cleanliness,
maintenance and landscaping. He would like to see a quarterly
facilities report implemented. His
goals include:
- Improving
test scores throughout the system
- Bringing
the system's teacher salaries up in the state ranking
- Improving
the system's dropout rate
- Attracting
qualified substitute teachers and increasing their pay rate.
Greene's ultimate goal is to be visionary enough to provide teachers
and students with a sense of purpose and direction to build the momentum
necessary to allow each one to achieve his/her potential. He
cites areas that add to the excellence of the school system:
- Low pupil-teacher
ratios
- Community partnerships
- Good working
relationship with the Hamblen County Commission
Greene and his wife, Susan, have four children:
Todd, Pam, Yvette, and Ashley. Greene has served on the school board
since Ashley was in kindergarten. His hobbies include horses and golf.
