Janice Haun

Janice S. Haun, a Morristown dental hygienist for the past 26 years, represents Districts 9 and 10.

A graduate of West High, she has an AS degree in dental hygiene from ETSU.  Her civic activities include working with Project Graduation (the drug- and alcohol-free after-graduation party for students) and the Hamblen County Literacy Council. She is a former president of the Russellville Elementary parent-teacher organization.

Her goals for the school system include providing a safe environment for students and staff, providing a quality education for all students while at the same time raising test scores, and completing the building program.

She brings to the board an expertise in health-related issues and a common-sense and fair approach to decision making. She is a dedicated, hard-working individual who cares about others, regardless of their social or economic background.

"I am a child advocate, not a politician. I welcome input from parents and staff," she said.

Haun applauds the school system faculty and staff who are dedicated to ensuring all children receive a quality education, regardless of their social or economic background.  Her hope is that all children who enter kindergarten will graduate from high school. She enjoys visiting the schools and attending events.

She and her husband Philip, have a son, P.J., a sophomore at East High. She enjoys spending time with her family on their Whitesburg farm. They have a basset hound named, "Wally."
