Bank of Union Heights

The Bank of Union Heights opened for business on October 21. The "Bank of Union Heights" began last school year as a pilot program in Tennessee, teaching 5th graders the importance of saving and handling money. Union Planters Bank of the Lakeway Area is the sponsoring bank. They train the students and provide the banking supplies.

The Bank of Union Heights has been a huge hit among the 4th and 5th graders at Union Heights. The bank's motto is "The Union Who Cares." The bank is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning from 7:45 AM until 8:15 AM. Students totally operate the bank. They serve as tellers, customer service representatives, and accounting personnel. All transactions and account balancing are completed by the student bankers. Students must be accurate and responsible.

In May, students will begin using their earned-interest at a bank store provided by Union Planters Bank. At the end of the school year, all depositors will have a choice of withdrawing all their money or transferring their savings into a real account at Union Planters.

We will soon be uploading pictures of the Bank of Union Heights in action. Come back and visit us soon.
