The curriculum of East Ridge consists of language arts, math, science, and social studies for each grade level. Sixth and seventh grade students are placed in advanced or regular math classes based on their test scores, while eighth grade students are placed in regular math, pre-algebra, or algebra based on their test scores. Related arts classes are available for all grade levels and include physical education, band, art, computer technology, choral music, teen living, and technology education. The students rotate through the related arts classes on a nine-week schedule.
Special Services
We offer many special services to our students. These services at East Ridge include resource, extended resource, speech/language, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological testing.
Technology
Each of our grade levels has its own computer lab with 24 iMac computers and one laser printer in each one. Teachers are provided their own presentation stations (computer, television, laser disc player, printer, availability to scanners) for their classrooms with access to an email system and the World Wide Web. Our library also has a computer lab with 24 stations and two printers. Finally, our special services department is equipped with seven teacher stations, five printers, and a word processor.
Special Programs
Special programs in our school include Character Counts, Adventure Quest, Youth Intervention, After-school Tutoring, Peer Tutoring, and Student Teacher Assistants.
Community/Parent Involvement
East Ridge is fortunate to be a part of a very supportive community. We always have a "full house" for Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Awards Night, or when students are participating in sports or performing in programs. Parents are always to chaperone school trips, dances, and other school-sponsored activities. The PTO is also very active and provides invaluable services to the school.
