6th Grade Tournament

General Information

Eligibility:

Student must have at least a) a GPA of 2.0 or b) a numerical average of 76

Student cannot have repeated the previous grade

Student's 15th birthday cannot occur before September 1 of the student's 8th grade year

Student must have a physical before he/she can try out (school board policy)

Factors to Consider:

Approximately 40 - 60 girls and 40 - 60 boys (6 - 8) will try out

Approximately 22 total girls and 22 total boys (6-8) will be selected

Numbers Game: Too many players selected makes it very difficult to provide adequate individual and team instruction during practice and provide adequate playing time for each player

Try Out Factors:

Skills: speed, agility, strength, quickness, dribbling, shooting

Scrimmaging: how individuals blend into team play

Attitude: arguably the most important factor

Position: point guard, post player, wing player

Coaches' Request:
Only those students trying out for basketball should be in the gym. Others in the gym can be distracting to the students who are trying out and the coaches who are evaluating the students. We understand that you wish to watch your child, but please remain outside the gym area until tryouts are completed.
Recreation Basketball:
We want to encourage students trying out to go ahead and sign up for recreation basketball. If students to not make the ERMS basketball teams, they may still try out for the recreational teams.
