The goal
of Miller W. Boyd Alternative School is to provide a second chance to
the students of Hamblen County Schools.
The mission is to provide an opportunity to continue the education
of those students that have had problems in other schools within the system.
In a highly structured environment the staff of Miller W. Boyd Alternative
School provide course work to those students that are considered the tough
to teach.

Curriculum
High School core courses:
- Math
- Science
- English
- Social Studies
To facilitate the needs of students sent here in
the middle of a course the staff will attempt to do non-core courses as
an elective study with the work being provided by the home school.
Middle School core courses:
- Math
- Science
- English
- Social Studies
- Related Arts
Behavior Management Training is conducted as directed
by the student's IEP.
Length of stay:
- Behavior - minimum of 45 days
- Drug, assault, severe behavior - 1 calendar year
- Alcohol - 90 days
- Senior with less than 45 days - remainder of school
year under special contract
- Transfer student - determined by alternative school
principal
- Homebound student - if a student on homebound
while enrolled at or pending enrollment at alternative school, that
student will return to alternative school to complete his/her term before
returning to regular school
- Special education student - as determined by IEP-Team.
