The Department of Instructional Technology is providing this list to you in order to expedite the purchasing of common technology items.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact your district technology specialist or our offices at 581-3144.  We intend to update this list as soon as contacts or pricing may change.  If the technology item you wish to purchase is not on this list, contact the Department of Instructional Technology for a recommendation or approval as per Technology Plan approved by the Hamblen County School Board.

When choosing one of these devices, we recommend the brands listed below based on our experiences with them in the school district. However, features and prices vary widely among these specialty devices. We recommend that you review various models to make sure the features of each system fit your intended purposes.

Buying Guidelines

Requisition/Purchase Orders
Please put the complete description of item from quote on requisitions

Please indicate the quote number on each line item of your requisition/purchase order.  This allows the rep to quickly identify the special pricing we have been given, and will honor it for the school year.

Requisition/Purchase Orders over $9,999.00

When Placing orders over $9,999.00, a Formal Bid must be written up, submitted to Business Office for review, presented at Colt Meeting and approved by the Board prior to placing the order.

Desktop Computers

Desktop computers should have at least a dual-core CPU with 4 GB of RAM and a “Pro” version of the operating system. Cheaper computers generally have less memory and come with a “Home” version of Windows, which would need to be upgraded.  Computers on this list meet minimum specification for the Hamblen County Department of Education which includes three(3) years of on-site warranty.  Computer must have Windows Professional version or they will not work on the school district network.

LCD Projectors

Lumens and resolution are the key component in the LCD projectors. In a classroom, you want at least 2200 lumens; for a gym or other large space get the highest lumens rating you can afford. The resolution should be XGA or WXGA;  we avoid the cheaper models with SVGA resolution because they will not display modern screens correctly.

Software

Do not buy CDs or media for Microsoft programs; the technology department has Microsoft CDs we can use for installations.   Prior to the purchase of software, your should consult the Department of Instructional Technology to make sure systems requirement can be met by the districts equipment.

Surge Protectors

Surge protectors prevent your computer from being destroyed by electrical spikes, and many come with a warranty that will pay if a connected computer is damaged. Buy protectors that have at least a 1,000 joule rating.

Printers

The Hamblen County Department of Education does not recommend or support ink-jet printers. These are cheap to purchase because the ink is so expensive, runs out quickly, and tends to dry up if the printer is not used for long periods of time. In the long run, it is more economical to buy a laser printer.

All Apple Products

Student , Teacher, and Administrative stations will be Windows stations moving forward.  Also, iPads will only be considered for purchase for Special Education Students.

Please have your Principal contact Harold Jones for all of your Apple products.   Once you receive your proposal from Harold Jones you may begin your purchase order requisition, please reference your proposal number on your purchase order.  For back up documentation please see the attached pdf file named Apple documentation 18-19.

Note: All Apple Orders under $1,000.00 must be placed by Harold Jones.  Please send a copy of the approved Purchase Order to him to have your order placed.

If you need a quote for an item to be on the board agenda, requests must be made 1 week PRIOR to information being due to the Director's Office.
