Approved YouTube Videos
The Hamblen County Department of Education utilizes YouTube owned and operated by Google, not the school district. Google content creators may include content that support educational programming.
As a parent or guardian of a student of the Hamblen County Department of Education, please read the information concerning COPPA compliance using the links below. We encourage you to talk with your child(ren) regularly about responsible device and Internet etiquette. We ask that you also be familiar with the district’s acceptable use guidelines. We also encourage parents and guardians to inquire what their child(ren) are doing with technology at home and school and set appropriate limits that work for your family.
In addition, some courses within the Hamblen County Department of Education require online third-party programs, websites, and/or apps for completion of the course and to qualify to participate in the course.

Google is making changes that are designed to provide additional protection for students to meet compliance requirements.
Approvers will be school-base. Videos that need approval are videos that are tagged by the content creator as either non-educational or 18+. This does not necessarily mean the content is not suitable for students or not educational, it was just not tagged by the content creator as such. Videos tagged 18+ can not be approved or made viewable by anyone in the district
ALL student accounts must be labeled as under 18 and this would include any high school students who may turn 18 during their enrollment with the district. They are still considered a student while enrolled.
Student Under 18 accounts will most likely be affected with their YouTube access: YouTube
Primary and secondary institutions who are under the age of 18 can’t:
- Create channels, playlists, stories, shorts, or upload videos
- Watch or create live stream events
- See or post comments
- Participate in live chat
- Buy channel memberships, creator merchandise, movies and TV shows, Super Chat and Super Stickers, or participate in YouTube Giving fundraisers
- Use apps, including YouTube Go, YouTube Music, YouTube Studio, YouTube TV, and YouTube VR
- Access other features, including:
- Cast on TV
- Connect game accounts
- Use Incognito mode
- Get personalized ads
- Enable or disable Restricted Mode
Teachers may be affected if they assign a video to a student and it not be accessible. The district has provided provisions for this that will help to also keep us in compliance.
YouTube
Approved videos (exceptions to the filtering that Google does) will be viewable by ALL students PreK-12 in the district.
Videos cannot be limited to a grade level or class.
**ANY CONTENT MARKED 18+ BY THE CONTENT CREATOR OR YOUTUBE WILL NOT BE VISIBLE EVEN IF APPROVED. THIS IS A GOOGLE CONTROL AND THE DISTRICT HAS NO CONTROL OVER THIS SETTING.
Content is classified by the content creator, not Google or the District
