School Safety

School Emergency Information

Should a school emergency occur, the public will be notified by local radio stations and School Messenger.  If you are a parent or legal guardian of a student, please make sure that your contact information is updated in the ParentPortal system by going to and logging in.  The message, e-mail, etc., will be the most current information available at the time.  If the emergency is an ongoing event, the same media will provide updates.

The Hamblen County Board of Education is committed to providing a safe environment for students, staff and visitors.  The department works closely with state and local safety officials – police, fire, emergency medical services, and public health – in order to ensure our schools are well prepared for an emergency.  Together we have developed an Emergency Response Plan that has assigned responsibilities for personnel to address a wide variety of emergencies.  The Emergency Response Plan serves as guide to help staff and our public safety agencies respond quickly should a crisis occur in our schools.

The information included on this page serves as a guide for school personnel, parents, and students should there be a school emergency.

School Resource Officer Program

The Hamblen County Schools Resource Officer Program is a partnership between the school system, the Hamblen County Sheriff's Department and the Morristown Police Department.  We currently have six fulltime SRO's to help protect the 10,000 students, staff, and visitors on our 18 school campuses.  These officers provide direct service to our schools which includes campus safety inspections, classroom presentations, school investigations, student and parent conferences and traditional law enforcement duties.

School Check-in/Check-out Procedures

Schools have check-in/check-out procedures for the safety of your child.  All visitors shall report to the main office upon arrival on school property.  Appropriate identification is required for the dismissal of a student to an adult.  Please contact your child's school site administrators if you have additional questions.
