3rd-8th Grade Achievement

TNReady is a part of the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) and is designed to assess true student understanding, not just basic memorization and test-taking skills. It is a way to assess what our students know and what we can do to help them succeed in the future.

Students in third through eighth grade take TNReady assessments in English language arts, math, science, and social studies at the end of each school year.

ACT & AP

The ACT test assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.  The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science.  EXPLORE and PLAN are part of the ACT suite of assessments that are given at the 8th and 10th grades.

Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment courses provide opportunities for students to gain college credit while still in high school.

Student Demographics

Under Tennessee's Waiver to No Child Left Behind, schools and school districts are required to focus on ensuring growth for all students every year and closing achievement gaps by ensuring faster growth for those students who are furthest behind.  Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) goals are set annually for each school and school district in Achievement and in Gap Closure in Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics.  Achievement gap targets focus on students with disabilities, racial minorities, English learners and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Each year, systems and schools add value to student achievement. Effective ones add at least a year's worth of growth in every grade.  The Tennessee Value Added Assessment System (TVAAS) measures the impact schools and teachers have on students' academic progress.  The Tennessee Value Added Assessment System uses the results from the math, reading/language, science, and social studies tests to measure the progress students make from one grade to the next.
